FASHION WEEK! Where to Stay? NYC, London, Milan, Paris
As fashion week kicks off in New York and continues through Paris, we have all the spots where you’ll want to be seen outside the tents and a few tips on staying fresh throughout the fall’s big events.
New York Fashion Week September 9-16
Fashion is an integral part of the identity of Andaz 5th Avenue, which opened this summer on July 5th. Fifth Avenue itself has always been renowned as a major shopping mecca, and the hotel is but a block from Bryant Park, home of New York’s Fashion Week from 1994-2010. Rooms feature open-faced glass closets that are reminiscent of the fashion district’s rolling racks, and guests can rest their weary feet (after hours of shopping, of course!) in the black cloissoné foot baths that grace each sumptuous rainfall shower. And it’s New York, so even the hotel staff’s uniforms are stylish. They are ambassadors to the city, after all! Women wear figure-flattering black wrap tops, paired with either skinny black pants or pencil skirts, and Tumi side bags, while men wear sleek collared shirts and suit jackets that have extra pockets. Women’s accessories are all statement pieces; either a striking crystal drop necklace and clear resin watch or a silver snake cuff and clear hoop earrings.
London Fashion Week: September 17-22
The Metropolitan is the place in London town to see and be seen off the runway and it offers great opportunities for relaxation and celebrity in posh Mayfair. After a day of watching models strut their stuff down the runway, it’s understandable to feel the need to monitor those calories. Luckily the hotel’s signature guilt-free version of the trad afternoon tea is there to assist with goodies made using flour substitutes, low fat crème fraîche, fresh fruit purées instead of unrefined sugars, olive oil is instead of butter, and natural, organic, and locally sourced produce wherever possible. Afternoon De-Light’s menu is accompanied by a selection of fruit infusions and an ‘Ultimate Iced Tea’ as well as a seasonal selection of ‘Eco-Tini’s’ from which to choose. And usually during each fashion week there’s a themed offering full of specialty cookies, cakes, and drinks. Also likely is the desire to relax after a busy day in five-inch heels. No fear, the Metropolitan London COMO Shambhala Urban Escape has a variety of spa packages. Restore muscles to full capacity with a deep tissue massage or regain inner harmony with a 60-minute acupuncture session. While the latest Stella McCartney cocktail dress might not be needed, a customizable spa-session is!
Milan Fashion Week September 22-28
The place to be in Milan is along Via Montenapoleone and Via della Spiga, especially between September 22 and 28 during Milan Fashion Week, home to some of fashion’s bolder collection debuts, like Vivienne Westwood and Dolce & Gabbana. Park Hyatt Milan offers stylish accommodations year-round and features spacious rooms and suites that combine authentic Italian finishes with sleek amenities and state-of-the-art technology. La Cupola, the lobby lounge in the heart of the hotel, is already famous among the Who’s Who as it overlooks the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele. The recently renovated space is ideal for sipping champagne in leisurely relaxation. La Cupola serves delayed brunch on Sundays from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m., understanding you can’t rush a diva. Or just drink dinner, as the models do, with a specialty Bloody Mary; there are several on the menu, all serving a daily dose of vegetables (and vodka). Book a stay and don’t miss a minute of the high-fashion drama.
Paris Fashion Week September 29-October 7
The city is home to Chanel, Hermes, Dior, and Louis; Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme can be a home-away-from-home from September 29 through October 7. Ranked fifth in Europe as the ‘World’s Best Hotel Service’ in 2009, the staff will make sure fashionistas have everything they need from sun-up to sun-down. Or take affection for textiles to the bedroom at Pavillon de la Reine, nestled in Paris’ fashionable Marais quarter, every room features sumptuous materials to create a rich and well-appointed, yet subtly refined look. The interiors channel the house’s history while still giving guests a contemporary feel. J’adore. Live like Vanessa Paradis at La Réserve Paris’s private apartments. Each of the ten is designed for total comfort and privacy down to the smallest details with a broad range of services available upon request – there’s a reason why Paris is so popular in the fashion community…and we think this is it.
And after all the fashion is said and done…stay at La Réserve Ramatuelle and enjoy one of their specialty five or seven day spa packages. Just 20 minutes from Saint-Tropez, it’s the perfect fit in relaxation.
