Preakness Stakes Black-Eyed Susans Recipe

Triple Crown season is here, so start practicing your cocktail shake with the Preakness Stakes Black Eyed Susans recipe. Everyone knows that the Kentucky Derby’s official drink is the Mint Julep, but did you know that the  also has a signature cocktail? Well, they do!

Black-Eyed Susans is the state flower of Maryland. Maryland’s largest single-day sporting event is also known as “The Run for the Black-Eyed Susans.” The winning horse is draped with a blanket of Black-Eyed Susans, of course.

The Black-Eyed Susan is likewise the official drink of the Preakness, so place your bets and get your cocktail shaker ready to celebrate the winner!

Preakness, the second leg of the thoroughbred racing series, will take place on the third Saturday in May (May 21st) at Baltimore’s Pimlico Race Course, where it’s been held since the race’s inception in 1873.

Black-Eyed Susan

The Makings:

  • 1 1/2 ounces of Effen vodka
  • 1 ounce of Makers Mark bourbon
  • 2 ounces of orange juice
  • 2 ounces sour mix

Let’s Drink it!
